Changes for The Wizzo…

June 1, 2012

The Wizzo began way back in 2008 when the comic was exclusive to our secondary school – back then we were all terrible artists, terrible writers and our ideas were pretty terrible – well most of them.

When we revamped in November 2010, a new load of fun and original characters came with it. However, among these new favourites of ours – we decided to revive Blong, Zappy, Frank’s Footie Team, Chav and Jim, Tiny Tim and Joust Joking. Arty also appearing in a “how to draw” page.

However, I’ve recently realised that I actually don’t enjoy drawing these characters so much now and that despite them being originals – they don’t deserve to be regulars simply because they were made before the revamp.

So, with regret, I’m going to either end their runs for a bit or simply axe them.

Tiny Tim will end soon – I may draw a few more as Kieren Gillespie has seemed to stop drawing them. Zappy will also end – probably in Issue 4. Blong is being taken over permanently by Josh Champion and will last up until Issue 8 possibly? Snuffle will be expanded to two pages and will become the main strip.

Joust Joking ends in Issue 6 to be replaced with a new mini-strip by Chris Wilson and co-written by me. Chav and Jim will last the longest out of them all but they too will end possibly in Issue 10 to be replaced with a new strip.

It’s not that we don’t like the characters – the problem is, they’re hard to write for and they’re boring compared to newer characters which have proven to be more liked by our readers.

On a plus side, this does mean more new stories – I have a few surprises in store as well. But you won’t find them out for a while yet… 😉

Hmm.. Don’t think Snuffle has the artwork to be the main character. No offence meant to Chris, but that’s just my opinion.

Chav and Jim was one of my favourite strips in issue 3. I liked Blong too – nice bit of silent comedy in a world of comics where all too frequently explanatory dialogue is added whether necessary or not. I definitely think Zappy ought to go though – the entire script felt like it had been lifted verbatim from a Brain Duane strip.

Zappy’s quite good, in my opinion…
